Weeki Wachee
They are still open and still great fun. The Seminole Indians named the spring “Weeki Wachee,” which means “little spring” or “winding river.” The spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh 72-degree water bubbles up out of subterranean caverns.
The first show at the Weeki Wachee Springs underwater theater opened on October 13, 1947 -- the same day that Kukla, Fran and Ollie first aired on that newfangled invention called television, and one day before Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier. The mermaids performed synchronized ballet moves underwater while breathing through the air hoses hidden in the scenery.
In the 1950s, Weeki Wachee was one of the nation’s most popular tourist stops.
Weeki Wachee’s heyday began in 1959, when the spring was purchased by the American Broadcasting Co. (ABC) and was heavily promoted. ABC built the current theater, which seats 500 and is embedded in the side of the spring 16 feet below the surface.

DAYTONA USA
Lots to see in Daytona. There is the great beach, There is a really cool Harley Dealership and of course the Daytona International Speedway. There is also DAYTONA USA, "The Official Attraction of NASCAR"
Daytona USA opened on July 4, 1996. It is an "interactive attraction." To the left of the entrance is this year's winning Daytona 500 car, straight off of the track with "no adjustments" so it's caked with mud, confetti, and crusty champagne. You can have your picture taken next to it for ten bucks. To the right is a walk through Daytona history, featuring the Bluebird V that hit 330 mph on the beach, back in the days when races were held on Daytona Beach. A slab of asphalt from Hwy A1A is here as well (from the days when races at Daytona were held on that), as is a 31 degree incline, banked to simulate a modern Daytona Speedway curve. At the 16-Second Pit Stop Challenge (corporate sponsor: Ford) onlookers are handed a jack and an air wrench and are dared to change a tire faster than a "pit crew" of Daytona USA employees.

The Holy Land Experience
The Holy Land Experience consists mostly of several life-size Biblical scenes packed into its 15-acres. A Jerusalem street market, the Dead Sea Scroll caves, Herod's Temple, the tomb of Jesus are all there. Most of the employees wear period costume, and the visitor quickly grows accustomed to seeing Roman soldiers and coarse-robed civilians scurrying about
The religion being preached at The Holy Land Experience is born-again Christianity, but the attraction makes a valiant effort to tie it to Judaism.
The Holy Land Experience is not designed for the casual visitor. Its dress code bans halter tops, spandex, and "short shorts". Its "miscellaneous codes" prohibit smoking and the bringing of food through the entrance gates.
The Jerusalem Model A.D. 66, "the largest indoor model of Jerusalem in the world," A guy in an Indiana Jones hat points out the alleys and buildings where Jesus probably would have been.
(Note: this attraction is not my cup of tea, and I don't recommend it personally but I felt we should put it in for those that might find it interesting. - Jim)
