A quiet room is hard to find in the average home. There are air conditioners, computer fans, and all sorts of background sound contamination. any sound dampening material will help.
It cost me around $35.
Here is another cool and very portable sound idea. The Voice Over “Porta-Booth”

It's not as good as the pro stuff but mattress pad foam will help deaden sound in your studio, and it's cheep.
You can get all types. In my experience, the type sold in medical stores for long term care patients is best. |
Want a pro model you can buy? Try the Mic Isolator at zZounds

Or this one from Real Traps

They both cost around $500 to $600

Coles 4104 Commentator's Ribbon Microphone is an expensive way to get good audio in a noisy environment. At almost $1000, if you can find one they are called the best kept secret in broadcasting. Find out More |
No album art. This really only applies when submitting your podcasts to the various podcast directories and podcatchers. iTunes, for example, allows album art and more often than not people don't even take a second look at the podcasts without it. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, and you can even use your logo as the album art so long as it communicates something about the podcast.

You can reduce popping and hissing sounds in recorded speech by using a Pop Filter. It catches the bursts of air that hit the unprotected microphone and can cause overload and distortion. A pop filter can be purchased for between $15 and $20 or you can make one. Below are links to instructions on making a filter.
